Intro
Well, the time arrived. After two months of waiting it was time for Jay Ray and DJ Sir Daniel to head to The Ambies, where Queue Points was nominated for Best Entertainment Podcast. Would they take the trophy? Spoiler alert, No. But they did win in so many other ways. Check it out!
Show Notes
Unlike most Queue Points shows, this episode was very different for the hosts. The two spent the entire show recapping their trip to Las Vegas. It was Jay Ray’s first time there, and proved an “interesting” experience.
To open the show, the hosts recounted their traveling experiences, which were very different. Both hosts took Frontier from different parts of the country. Jay Ray was delayed almost three hours, and didn’t arrive in Vegas until 2:30 AM. He had a peculiar encounter with the hotel agent that made for some fun discussion.
Record Shopping
After a misadventure for breakfast (and a funny server experience), the two had the opportunity to visit Record City, and had a great time shopping for vinyl. Shout out to the folks at the E. Sahara Ave. location. They had a great selection! Jay Ray snatched up a copy of Philly’s own Larry Larr’s debut “Da Wizard of Odds” which he hadn’t seen in decades.
Hanging Out With Drama Dupree
DJ Sir Daniel also caught up with the legendary Drama Dupree. Did you know that DJ Sir Daniel started podcasting in the late-2000’s with Drama on Better Days Radio? Learn more about Queue Points and their start in podcasting in our Libsyn Rockin Podcasts article.
The Ambies
Arriving at The Ambies was an experience. After getting their passes the two headed for the red carpet, where the nominees were greeted with opportunities to be photographed prior to the show.
The two had the opportunity to really connect with some amazing folks during the pre-ceremony gathering, including Ambie-winner Anna Deshawn, who took home the Best DIY Podcast award for her amazing Queer News, famed podcast producer and strategist Krystal Hill as well as fellow nominees Felicia Gangloff-Bailey and Karega Bailey of Sol Affirmations.

Community Matters
For the remainder of the show the two reflect on the importance of community. The support of groups like the Black Podcasters Association, BIPOC Podcast Creators and the Black Podcasting Awards (for which Queue Points earned a 2022 Best Music Podcast Nomination) are really important to the hosts.
Jay Ray even recounted how it was at the BIPOC Podcast Creators meet up in 2022 that he met Big Mike, who’d join Queue Points for our four part Black Country Music series, which earned the show its nomination for The Ambies this year.
